STEP in and Stand up
CPR Saves Lives: Empowering Students to Respond in Emergencies
At BCC STEP, we believe in equipping young people with the life-saving skills they need to make a difference in critical moments. In collaboration with the FDNY, we are on a mission to train as many students as possible in compression-only CPR techniques and the use of automated external defibrillators (AEDs).
2024: A Milestone Year
In 2024, we proudly trained hundreds of students to be alert, confident, and prepared to act in emergencies requiring CPR. These students are now better equipped to save lives when seconds count.
Expanding the Impact in 2025
Building on this success, we are continuing our efforts in 2025 to reach even more students and create a community ready to respond when it matters most.
What to Expect During Training
Participants receive expert guidance from certified FDNY EMS instructors and engage in hands-on practice with compression-only mannequins. The training includes:
- Basic instruction on AED usage: Learn how to effectively operate an automated external defibrillator to restore a normal heart rhythm.
- Hands-on compression-only CPR practice: Gain confidence in delivering chest compressions to maintain circulation during cardiac emergencies.
- Interactive and engaging sessions: Ensure that participants leave with practical skills and knowledge.
Why It Matters
Every year, thousands of lives are lost due to cardiac emergencies, but timely CPR can double or even triple the chances of survival. By empowering students with these critical skills, we are creating a safer and more prepared community.
